Married to Francis Darwin on 23rd July, 1874 at All Souls, Langholm Place, London; she gave birth to Bernard Darwin on 7th September, 1876 and subsequently died.

According to a letter written by Charles Darwin to his close friend, Joseph Dalton Hooker: " I never saw anyone suffer so much as poor Frank. He has gone to N. Wales to bury the body in a little church-yard amongst the mountains".
Gravestone reads: "Gwywa a gwelltyn syrth y blodewyn ond gair ein Duw ni a saif byth" or "the grass withereth, the flower fadeth but the word of our god shall stand for ever" (from Isaiah).
Her son Bernard (1876 - 1961) is buried at St Mary the Virgin Churchyard, Downe, as is his wife Elinor Monsell, who taught her husband's cousin Gwen Raverat engraving; nearby is Down House, the home of the Darwin family, where Amy died. Amy Roberta [Berta] Ruck (1878–1978), novelist, was born on 2 August 1878 at Murree, Punjab, India, the eldest child of Arthur Ashley Ruck, a lieutenant in the Isle of Man regiment (8th foot), and his wife, Elizabeth Eleanor, daughter of Robert West D'Arcy, a colonel in the Bombay grenadiers. They had seven further children: three sons and four daughters.
'Berta Ruck', as she came to be known, was brought to Britain at the age of two and lived for a while at Panlludw, Merioneth, near Machynlleth, the home of her paternal grandmother, Mary Anne Ruck (née Matthews), and both the place and the person were to make a deep impression on her."
