Private residences: ... Mr. Maitland, 342 George Street. This business was established over thirty years ago by Messrs Hogg, Howison and Co., who were succeeded by the present firm early in 1894. Messrs Tucker and Co. are importers of general merchandise, but their special lines are teas, which they blend and pack in tins and lead; the principal brands are "May Flower" and "Babu." They are sole agents in New Zealand for "Old Sport" tobacco, their trade extending from Auckland to the Bluff. ... Mr. Maitland, who was born in Glasgow in 1859, was educated at Ibrox Academy, and was subsequently put to the sewed muslin trade. After various London and Glasgow experiences in business circles, he came out to New Zealand in 1886, and shortly afterwards joined Messrs Hogg, Howison and Co., as traveller; and after being so engaged for seven years, he joined Mr. Tucker in establishing the present business. MAITLAND.—On December 4th, 1928, at Dunedin, Thomas Alfred, beloved husband of the late Catherine Maitland, late of Council street, St. Kilda; in his 70th year. —The Funeral will leave Hanover Street Baptist Church on Thursday, December 6th, at 10.30 a.m., for the Anderson's Bay Cemetery W. The death occurred at Dunedin on Tuesday of Mr Thomas Alfred Maitland at the age of 69 years. Mr Maitland was born in Glasgow, and was educated at the Ibrox Academy. He learned the sewed muslin trade, and, after gaining business experience in Glasgow and London, he came to New Zealand in 1886 and took up a position as a commercial traveller with the firm of Hogg, Howison, and Co. After seven years Mr Maitland went into business with Mr C. H. Tucker, and became well known in local business circles. From 1901 to 1903 he represented Leith ward on the City Council, and he was also a prominent worker in the Baptist Church. [Otago Daily Times, Issue 20584, 6 December 1928, Page 10 ]

Reference to the death of Mr T. A. Maitland, a former president of the Returned Soldiers' Choir and an honorary member of the association, was made at last night's meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association, members standing in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to the deceased. At a meeting of directors of the Dunedin Bowling Club reference was made to the death of Mr T. A. Maitland, and the following resolution was passed:—"The directors have learned with great regret of the death of Mr Maitland. Before his illness forced him to relinquish his active participation in the club's games and affairs Mr Maitland was a very active member. He joined the club in 1905, became president in 1917, and continued his membership until last year. The club is greatly indebted to the deceased for his services, and the directors extend to his relatives their sincere sympathy in their great loss."
