It has gone on to be one of the most popular children's stories in modern history, being reprinted over 200 times in over 30 languages. He would author more works in the same vein, including "Bambi's Children," "Perri," "A Forest World," "Fifteen Rabbits," "Renni the Rescuer" and "Florian, the Emperor's Stallion." In 1942 "Bambi" was made into an animated motion picture by the Walt Disney Studios. Initially received with mixed results, and a loss in profits, it eventually became one of the most popular animated films of all time. Felix Salten would become exiled in Switzerland by the Nazis because of his Jewish ethnicity, and he died there in 1945. It is widely beleived that he was also the author of the 1906 erotic work "Josephine Mutzenbacher: The Life Story of a Viennese Whore, as Told by Herself", which was published anonymously.
