Retired British Consul General Henry Carew-Hunt was born in St. Michael, Azores Islands to Thomas Carew-Hunt of Devonshire, England and Lady Dorothy Nugent-Humble of Waterford, Ireland.

1866-1867 he was a Lt. in the 74th Highlanders, serving in India; 1876 he began serving as British Vice-Consul in Bordeaux, France; 1879 he was Vice Consul at Port-au-Prince. Queen Ann appointed him Consul in 1883; 1883 began serving as Consul in Königsberg, Germany; 1889 was transferred as Consul to New Orleans and on December 26, 1908 he was appointed by The King to British Consul General for Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Florida, based in New Orleans, LA. He was forced into retirement in Sept. 1915. Relations between the Consul General and the British subjects in Louisiana were strained and they felt he was not performing his duties.

He married Ann Mabel Brooks on July 18, 1872. The couple had Thomas Edward, George Ward, Maysie and Dorothea "Mabel". Ann died in Langfuhr, Germany (near Dantzig) on Dec. 16, 1891.

His 2nd wife was Diederiea Johanna Eleonora "Clara" Oltmann. The couples only known child was Henry Thomas, Jr.

He died in Albamarle, VA of a heart ailment.
