Turin born Carlo Ippolito Ernesto Tancredi Maria Falletti di Barolo was a Guardia d'Onore a Cavallo and Ciambellano at the Court of Napoleon when he met Juliette Colbert whom he married on August 18, 1806. Mayor of Turin between 1826 and 1827, the couple, which remained childless, decided to adopt as their own the poor of the city, which was than attracting migrants from the countryside. Opening free schools and founding the construction of the Monumental Cemetery of Turin, they founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus the Good Shepherd and the Sisters of St. Anne. Passing away in Chiari, his remains were laid to rest next to those of his wife the Marchioness in 2013 who was declared venerable by Pope Francis in 2015. His cause of beatification is in process.
