Mr. Freddie Gelon Brown, 77, was found Sunday morning (July 10, 2016) at his residence.

Gelon was born in Jesup, but he was raised in Waycross and graduated from Waycross High School in 1956. He served with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Verdun, France in the early 1960's. He was employed by CSX Railroad in the Jacksonville Headquarters Offices as well as working in Washington, D.C. for 6 years. He was a Sign Language Interpreter for the deaf and also taught sign language for many years.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Annette Altman Brown; and his parents, George Frank Brown and Melba Shipes Brown.

Survivors include his son, Randall Gelon Brown (Colleen), one grandson, Philip Brown, and one great granddaughter, Zoe, all of Orange Park, FL; one brother, Kenneth Brown (Marcia) of Surrency; two sisters, Teresa Joiner (L.A.) of St. Augustine, FL, and Anita Craft (late Mike) of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family graveside service will be held Wednesday (July 13, 2016) at Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.

Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
