Oil City Derrick, Saturday, Jun 23 1906:

Franklin, Jun 22 -- Mrs. Cora E. McDowell, 43, of 43 11th street, Franklin, died at 2:20 pm in a hospital in Buffalo, NY, where she had been under treatment for nervous trouble for the past three months. Her maiden name was Cora E. Richey and was born in Plum township, this county.

About 21 years ago she married Glenn S. McDowell, who at the time of his death four years ago, was one of the leading dentists in this area. They had two children, Harold R., who survives, aged 19 years, and Laura Scoffield, deceased.

Since the tragic death of her husband and daughter, by drowning, she has been an invalid, having never recovered from the shock of that event. On the 20th of August, 1902, her husband took her and the children sailing on Conneaut Lake, where they were staying for a season. When near the shore at Midway landing, the craft was in some manner run down by a steamboat that was coming into the dock, and all were thrown into the water. Harold assisted in saving his mother. The doctor sunk in the effort to save the little girl, and both were drowned. Mrs. McDowell had suffered a bodily injury in the accident and this, with her inconsolable grief, caused the nervous trouble that ended her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, and had many sincere friends. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal church.

The mother of the deceased, Mrs. Hannah Richey, and a sister reside in Titusville.

The funeral will be here at a time not yet arranged and interment will be in Franklin cemetery.
