She was a person with a caring soul. Loving and kind to everyone.

She was a member of the cheerleading squad, and enjoyed dancing and being with her family and friends.

In 2014, Emma began dating a young man named Riley Gaul. They seemed like the picture-perfect high school couple, but their relationship was toxic. When they started dating, Emma's parents said that he was very nice and she was happy with him. After some time, he would always comment

on what Emma wore, telling her what she should and shouldn't do. Then he would say things like "I hate you, I hate everything about you" and "You're dead to me I'll check the obituary." In November of 2016, Emma's parents decided to ban Riley from their home and took away her phone to stop the teens from communicating. Riley didn't take the breakup well and was bombarding her with messages.

On November 19, 2016, a man dressed in black was wandering around Emma's family home in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was banging on the door. On November 21, 2016, Emma's mother later went to wake up her daughter. Entering the bedroom, she found Emma lifeless. The police found two bullet holes in the wall of the house. Emma had been killed by a gunshot wound to the head after two bullets had been fired into her bedroom from outside the home while she was asleep.

One bullet had hit her behind her left ear and the second had lodged into her pillow. Right from the start, police had Riley as the prime suspect. The bullets in the gun that killed Emma matched a gun that was owned by Riley's grandfather.

Riley was found guilty of first-degree murder, as well as stalking, theft, reckless endangerment and being in possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, and he was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 51 years.
