Ann L. Meyers, 47, of Manheim Township, a nationally recognized expert in environmental public relations, died at Lancaster General Hospital on November 20, 2004, from an unexpected illness.

Born in Harrisburg on December 29, 1956, Ms. Meyers was the wife of Howard L. Kelin. The couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on August 5, 2004. She is also survived by four children, Daniel L. Kelin, Elizabeth A. Kelin, Matthew R. Kelin and James D. Kelin. Ms. Meyers is also survived by her parents, the Rev. H. James Meyers and Mary B. (Gable) Meyers, her brother, James H. Meyers, and her sisters, Constance (Meyers) Schmotzer and Cynthia (Meyers) Laven.

Ms. Meyers was the President of Ann Meyers Public Relations, Inc., of Lancaster. An environmental advocate, she provided public relations counseling on environmental matters to the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland, and to the Ozone Transport commission (comprised of the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia). Ms. Meyers was a frequent speaker on public relations at national conferences on Clean Air and Ozone Action programs. Her public relations guidance was also in strong demand by firms and agencies in the Lancaster area, including Worley & Obetz, the Hourglass Foundation, School District of Lancaster, Lancaster Family YMCA, Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, Hershey Foods, Woodstream and the Lancaster County Convention Center Authority. Before moving to Lancaster with her family in 1992, Ms. Meyers had been a Public Affairs Director for the National Park Service and the Department of Taxation in Virginia.

Ms. Meyers was a 1978 summa cum laude graduate of Thiel College, Greenville, PA, where she received a B.A. in History. During her freshman year in college, Ms. Meyers served as the Pennsylvania Maple Queen, representing the state's maple industry at statewide functions. After graduating, she became a National Park Ranger in Jamestown, Virginia, before pursuing her career in public relations.

In addition to her family, Ms. Meyers major interest included camping, mountain climbing, music and art. She was an accomplished artist and actress and received critical acclaim in several community theatre productions in Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 South Duke St., Lancaster, with the Rev. Dr. David L. Johnson officiating. Ms. Meyers family will rejoice with others in her memory one hour before the service, from 10 to 11AM, and afterward at a luncheon. A private family interment will be performed on Wednesday, November 24, 2004. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Lancaster Family YMCA, 572 North Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
