Wayne was born June 21, 1930 to Lester and Inga Cooper in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He was one of six children.
Wayne attended Richland Center High School and was a Golden Glove Boxer.
Wayne enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school and fought in the Korean War. He received three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge, among other medals.
Wayne attended the University of Wisconsin Platteville after the war and completed a bachelor’s degree in teaching.
Early in his teaching career he met Jean Marilyn Dhuey and they married April 7, 1958. Wayne and Jean were married 59 years.
Wayne and Jean spent their teaching years in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Montana. Throughout his teaching career Wayne coached football, basketball, track, and wrestling.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids sharing stories of his life. He also enjoyed working in the yard, fishing, a good cup of coffee, a cigarette, the Green Bay Packers, and a fine nap in the afternoon.
Interment at the VA cemetery in Missoula.
