STILTS

Roger Dean Stilts, 58, passed away on August 13, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN with his family by his side.

Born in Muncie on March 14, 1958, Roger resided most of his life in Carmel where he served the community as a firefighter with the Carmel Fire Department for more than 26 years. A faithful public servant, Roger was accustomed to going above and beyond the call of duty. For many years, when not at the firehouse, Roger was serving as a Reserve Deputy on the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. He always put others before himself, doing what he liked best--helping people.

Roger was an avid collector of all kinds of historical memorabilia, including swords. A history buff and science fiction fan, perhaps his largest collection was that of movies. Growing up and into adulthood, Roger enjoyed being outdoors, including canoeing and fishing. Roger contributed to many causes close to his heart over the years. Having no children of his own, perhaps he most enjoyed sponsoring a child in the Philippines for several years through the Christian Children's Fund.

Roger will be most remembered for his witty sense of humor and his dedication to friends, family and co-workers. Roger is survived by his brothers, Dennis and Gene Stilts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. Stilts and Frances C. Stilts.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18th from 4-8p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19th at 11:30 a.m. at Leppert Mortuary & Crematory Services, Smith Carmel Chapel at 900 N. Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN, 46032.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society (1721 Pleasant St., Noblesville, IN, 46060).
