Son of Samuel Marsh 1700-1772 and Mary (nee) d. 1742. His father remarried to Mary Shotwell on 17 Feb 1743. Resided in Elizabethtown, Essex County which is now Elizabeth, Union, Co, N.J.

Joseph's first wife was Martha Webster, daughter of William Webster 1692-1750 and Susannah Cowperthwaite 1693-1777. They married on 20 Aug 1750, per Rahway & Plainfield MM Quaker records and other source: A.M. Shotwell, Annals of Our Colonial Ancestors, pg.12. Martha died 1762, abt. 28 yrs of age.
Their children; Elias 1751-1820, Robert1 1752-1757, Jane 1752-1757, and Mordecal Marsh b. 1757-1815. (Dates not sourced and provided by ancestry trees).

Joseph married secondly, to Hope Moore 1736-1739, in 1770, per family records. Their marriage evidenced by Joseph's will, as stated; provision for property to be given to their oldest son, Daniel, stating the property belonged to his grandfather; Daniel Moore, devised to mother, Hope. She is addressed as "One of my former wives".
Their children: Daniel 1763-1814 (m. Elizabeth Shotwell), Sarah 1764-1811 (m. Titus Shotwell), Joseph 1765-1838 (m. Anna De Camp), Robert2 1777-1829, Elizabeth 1768-?, Jane2 1769-1787, and Enoch Marsh 1769-1845 m. Phebe Allen. (dates are not sourced, found on Ancestry tree).

Their children: Joseph Marsh b. 1772-d. S.C., and Robert Marsh2 1775-1829, S.C. m. Mary Norton d. 1829.
Joseph's will provided the names of sons: Daniel, Enoch, Robert and Joseph Marsh, each receiving land. His daughters; Sarah, Elizabeth and Jane Marsh, received money. HIs wife Mary (Copeland), named.
