Daughter of Hollywood comic star Stan Laurel (1890-1965), one half of the famed 'Laurel & Hardy' comedy team, and Silent Film actress Lois Nelson (1895-1990). Born Lois Jefferson Laurel to UK-born actor Stan Laurel (Jefferson) and American actress Lois Nelson (Neilson) on December 10, 1927, in the height of her parents' popularity. Her brother, also named Stanley Laurel Jr, died just 9 days after his premature birth in 1930. Though her parents' ended their near decade-long marriage in 1935, they remained devoted to their only child, Lois. At age 20, Lois married actor Rand Brooks (1918-2003), best remembered as 'Charles Hamilton' in "Gone with the Wind" (1939), who played Scarlet O'Hara's first husband in the classic film. The couple produced two children, son Arlington Rand III, and daughter Laurel Cassidy Brooks, and were married 30 years before divorcing in 1978. In 1981, she remarried to UK-born Hollywood TV writer/actor Tony Hawes (1929-1997), the union lasting until his death at age 67. Lois never remarried, but enjoyed the final two decades of her life (as she did throughout her life) honoring her father's memory at fan events. She worked effortlessly to preserve their legacy of 'Laurel & Hardy', and was a popular guest of the duo's famed fan club 'Sons of the Desert'. Lois also loved spending time with special friends, and her loving family. Sadly, her son Randy Brooks died in May 2016, at age 66. And in the summer of the following year, Lois Laurel Hawes, 89, died after a long illness on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA. She was survived by her daughter Laurel, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren in all. Her beloved parents Stan Laurel (who remarried 3 more times) died in February 1965, at age 74. Her mother Lois Nelson, (who never remarried) died in July 1990, at age 94.
