STEELE, EMMA MARGARET HOLLINGSWORTH August 26, 1921 to April 23, 2009 Thursday night, April 22, 2009, Emma Margaret Steele, beloved mother and grandmother, surrounded with her children in her home, passed away at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her husband D. Leo Steele and her daughters Doris Steel Simpson and Susan Steel Horner. She is survived by her daughters Diane Steel Maestas of Colorado, Debbie Steel Ehleringer of Oregon and Theresa Steel McPherren of California, and her sons Larry, Joe and David of California, and Gary of Washington, 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Margie and Leo were married February 13, 1942. A Coast Guard wife and mother, she raised nine children while traveling the United States for over 27 years. In 1967, she and Leo finally settled down here in San Diego. Some of their adventures in 56 years of marriage took them to live in Indiana, Hawaii, California, Florida, North Carolina, Washington, Alaska and Puerto Rico. For 42 years she was an active member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister and additional church activities, including helping others in need in her neighborhood through the Meals-on-Wheels program. Margie was a compassionate, gentle woman, loved by those who knew her. She will be missed very much by her family and friends, but always kept close in their hearts and loved very much. Heaven is blessed to have her where she is now receiving her reward.
