Ebenezer Allen (1738) was a loyalist to the crown of England, and did not want his country, America, to go to war against England. The patriots, however, forced his hand and he and his family fled to Halifax, Nova Scotia, with scores of other loyalist families. Read The following story: "The earliest record we have is that Jeremiah and Ebenezer Allen of Boston were arrested by order of the council of Massachusetts in 1776 and that Ebenezer with his family of seven persons embarked for Halifax on March 17, 1776, when the British Army evacuated Boston. Ebenezer was one of the refugees of the Sandemanian Church of that city. Ebenezer may be a first or second cousin of Abigail Allen, widow of Richard Stayner of Boston, who was also a Sandemanian refugee, and he brought her family to Halifax at the same time. It may be that Ebenezer had brothers who accompanied him, as well, as a Simeon Allen who died at Dartmouth, NS 5/27/1822 at the age of 82; and Silas Allen, a native of Mass. died aged 86 at Five Islands, Parrsborough on 12/10/1826 at the house of Mr. N. Kelar, having been a resident of Dartmouth for 40 years.

Mr Allen donated the property for Woodlawn Cemetery, originally called The Allen Family Cemetery.Born in 1738 in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts

Parents: Micajah Allen Sr and his second wife Hannah Edson.

He married Meribah Frazier around 1762, and they had at least 5 children; Mary Eleanor, Alexander, Ebenezer II, William and John.

He immigrated to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia around 1758-60, and he and his son built a large Tannery in Dartmouth. It employed many people, especially American black slaves fleeing to the area. He was in business with his son John Allen. John created a partnership with John Stayner "Allen & Stayner". The Partnership dissolved in 1814 with the Allen's retaining the Tannery and land in the area.
