Brother John O. “J.O.” Martin, 83, resident of Columbia, died Saturday, September 7, 2019 at NHC Columbia.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Dale Yates and Brother Anthony Muston officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Baptist Cemetery.

Born February 19, 1936 in Double Springs, Alabama, he was the son of the late Wallace L. Martin and the late Nettie Lee Bailey Martin. He worked as an auto mechanic for several years and also worked for 38 years as a school bus driver. Mr. Martin was a retired minister after serving for several years at Lawrence Grove Baptist Church, Williamsport Baptist Church, Theta Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and New Life Baptist Church. In more recent years, Mr. Martin has been a member of Faith Baptist Church on Snow Creek Road.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Jones Martin of Columbia, Tennessee; daughter, Bridgette (Jeff) Waller of Kingston Springs, Tennessee; grandchild, Kristen Nicole (Chase) Drake; two great grandchildren; brother, Wallace MCCoy (Mary Ruth) Martin of Double Springs, Alabama; sister, Sharon Marie (Keith) Robins of Double Springs, Alabama; several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will include Darrell Martin, Troy Martin, A.J. Jones, Ronnie Hinson, Ronnie Sparkman, Dustin Martin.
