Mário Damas Mora was born in Príncipe Island (São Tomé and Príncipe), on May 9, 1904, and died in Lisbon, on January 22, 1975, at the age of 70, of polio. He was the son of renowned doctor António Damas Mora and of unknown mother, who never mothered him. He graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon in 1930, also taking courses on Sanitary Medicine, Tropical Medicine, Hydrology and Climatology and, in Madrid, the Aeronautical Medicine Course. With this multipurpose facet, he exercised several medical specialties until he decided to opt for the specialty of Allergology, where he had a remarkable performance as a great dynamizer. In fact, he was an Intern at Magalhães Coutinho Maternity, specialist in Tisiology and Cardiology. From 1932 to 1934, he also directed the Dr. Manuel Ferreira de Mira Dispensary. He also taught, having been an Assistant in the Pharmacology course at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, as well as Assistant Professor of Exotic and Clinical Pathology at the Institute of Tropical Medicine. As an Allergologist he was, in 1950, Chief Physician of the Allergy Services of the Junta of the Province of Estremadura, a position he held until 1974, President of the Portuguese Society of Allergy, Adviser of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Asmology (of which he was a founding partner) and Honorary Member of the Spanish Society of Allergology. He is the author of several published works, especially on Allergology. He was awarded the Order of Christ, the Civil Order of Sanidad of Spain, the Order of Isabella the Catholic of Spain, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Order of Merit of Italy and the Gold Medal from the Pasteur Institute in Paris and Silver Medal "Dedication" from the Portuguese Legion.
