Klaus M. Abendroth of Holland, Pennsylvania died Thursday, May 27, 2021 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 85 years old. Klaus was born March 26, 1936 in Gross Breitenbach, Germany, son of the late Kurt Abendroth and the late Toni Abendroth (nee - Lödel). He is the beloved husband of Ilse Abendroth (nee - Sachs); father of Herbert Abendroth and his wife Mary, Karen Hengst and her husband Russell, Hans Abendroth and his wife Karen, and Lisa Erb and her husband Raymond; brother of Dieter Abendroth and the late Rolf Abendroth. He is also survived by his ten grandsons and four great granddaughters.
Klaus was born, raised, and educated in Gross Breitenbach in Thuringen, Germany where he learned his trade as a cabinet maker. Klaus and his family moved from East Germany to a suburb of Stuttgart in West Germany in 1953. In 1956 Klaus emigrated on his own to the United States and worked as a carpenter for various companies until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1960 after reaching the rank of Lance Corporal. While in the service he married his fiance' Ilse Sachs at Tabor Lutheran Church in the Feltonville section of Philadelphia where they were married by the late Rev. Hans Haug. They lived on Tabor Avenue in the city. Klaus became a union carpenter in 1961 and in 1978 started his own business as a home remodeler. In 1996 until his retirement, Klaus worked as a union carpenter. He and his family have lived in Holland, PA since 1973. Klaus was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Worthington Road in Northeast Philadelphia, where he was a member of the church council. In his leisure time he was a member of the Hermann-Humboldt Masonic Lodge No. 125 F. & A.M., where he was a Past Master. He was also a member of the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein, the Bayerischer Volksfest Verein, and the Germany American Police Association.
