MSG (Ret.) Sherman E. Hall, "Pop", 88, passed peacefully in his Columbus, Georgia home on July 2, 2021. A highly decorated 27-year veteran of the United States Army, he fought in the Korean War and Vietnam War.

Sherman was born on February 25, 1933 in Bay City, Wisconsin to the late Gerald and Eleanor Hall. Being born during The Depression, he mentioned his family was lucky to have several farm animals to get food from. During his high school years, he and his family moved to Ellsworth, Wisconsin where they had 140 acres of land, some for farming and a large, wooded area for childhood memories and fun with his two sisters. Prior to joining the U.S. Army in 1949, Sherman joined the Minnesota National Guard.

Sherman met the love of his life, Velma, "Ma", in 1952 while on a week pass to Bonifay, Florida. It was not long after that they ran off and got married in Lucedale, Mississippi. They moved to Columbus in 1976. Pop and Ma raised 4 sons and 1 daughter, all of which had a great childhood growing up. Other than family, Pop's greatest hobby was fishing. It was his favorite pastime, and everyone knew it. He also had an extreme wit, always had a good story to tell, and was always handing out a hug. Pop leaves behind so many fond memories for everyone who knew him.

Other than his parents, Pop is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 63 years; his daughter, Marita Foster; one grandchild Jennifer Goplen; and two sisters, Shirley and Geraldine Hall.

Survivors include his sons Kenneth Hall (Janice), John Hall (Pam), Ricky Hall (Yogi) and Tracey Hall; grandchildren, Melissa Goad, Kathy Shiver (Brandon), Daniel Hall (Nicole), Patrick Hall, Christina Kees (Elliott), Matthew Hall (Brenda), Coleton Foster (Tiffany), Alainey Hall and Katherine Hall; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and good friends/neighbors.

Graveside services are scheduled at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Ken Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, Georgia from 6-8 p.m.
