Ella Rae was born on June 4, 1942 to Monroe and Elsie Whedbee in Burlington, NC. In 1965 Ella Rae married her husband John Gary Newton at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. Ella Rae and Gary had two children; Jay Gary Newton and Anna C Poulos.

Always giving 100 percent, Rae lived as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is united with her son, Jay Gary Newton and her husband John Gary Newton, her parents Elsie and Monroe Whedbee and her favorite aunt Ona Whedbee.

During her lifetime Rae was an entertainer, an entrepreneur, a philosopher, a trend setter, a leader and a fighter. She was a true Southern lady whose door was always open to those in need. She was a hero to so many. Because of her faith, she goes to a better place where the wine is perfectly paired with her dinner, the food has no calories, the coffee is strong and her nails and lips are always the perfect shade of red. She has gone to a place where she is surrounded by family and friends.
