Rose Ann Saraiva, 88, of Cranston, RI and Naples, Florida, died at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Born in Cranston, RI, she was the daughter of the late Abilio and Joaquina Pires. She was the wife of Ernest Saraiva who predeceased her and to whom she was married for 70 years. Rose is the mother of Ernest Saraiva, Jr. and his wife Dixie of Montevill, Maine, Bella and her husband Jose Martins of Cumberland, RI and the late Richard Saraiva.

Rose is the grandmother of Lauren Giroux (Rick), Brian Saraiva (Kayla), and Elizabeth Santos (Nuno). She leaves five great grandchildren – Jeffrey Giroux, Jonah and Eli Saraiva, Olivia and Lucas Santos. She is the sister of Daniel Pires and was predeceased by her brothers Antonio Almeida, Antonio Pires, Abilio (Bill) Pires, and her sister Mary Neves.

Rose was a remarkably intelligent woman who taught herself to read and write Portuguese and went on to become a self-employed interpreter and doing volunteer work assisting in schools and hospitals. She also worked in the emergency room at Rhode Island Hospital. She was a member of the Cranston Portuguese Club Ladies Auxiliary. Rose also organized a group of women in the Red Hat Society who would meet regularly for social interaction and lunch.

The family acknowledges with special thanks the thoughtful kindness, care and assistance of the nurses and staff of the Rhode Island Hospital Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Hope Hospice & Palliative Care. We are also grateful to Rose's neighbors, the Palumbo Family, for their continuous love, help, support and friendship.

Calling hours will be held at the Stapleton Funeral Home, 684 Park Avenue, Cranston, Wednesday, August 10 from 4 to 7PM. The funeral will be Thursday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at the St. Matthew Church, 1299 Elmwood Avenue, Cranston followed by burial at the St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the LaSalle Academy, Joan Pires Endowment, 612 Academy Avenue, Providence, RI 02908.
