Edmond Singleton was born in 1755 in Amelia, Co., Virginia. He joined the Continental Army at the Amelia Co. Courthouse in the summer of 1776 and was mustered into the 1st Regiment of the Continental Light Dragoons mounted regiment under the command of Theodore Bland. He saw action at the battles of Strawberry Hill and Monmouth. He married Elizabeth Orisby, (b. in VA in 1761) in Virginia in 1784. Among their children was John Henry Singleton. Elizabeth died in 1806 and Edmond married Mary McIIroy, (b. 1755-1850). He started receiving a federal pension in October 1819 as a resident of Pendleton Co. SC. He moved to Forsyth Co, GA in Sept. 1837 to be near his sons. Edmond was living with his son Overstreet Singleton in Lumpkin Co. GA in 1840. (1840 Census of Revolutionary War Pensioners). Edmond died on 6 September 1845 in Lumpkin Co. GA and is buried at the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dawson Co. GA.
