Daughter of Charles Langton Massingberd (1815–1887) and Harriet Anne (née Langford) Massingberd (1824–1855).

Married Edmund Langton on 2 Mar 1867 at Trinity Church, Brompton, London.

(After her husband's death she resumed her maiden name by Royal Licence.)

Maj. Stephen Langton Massingberd (1869–1925)

Mary Langton Massingberd (1871–1950)

Diana Langton Massingberd (1872–1963)

Political and social pioneer Emily Langton Massingberd often chose to dress like a man - taking on several male roles during her time as an amateur actress. She is perhaps most famous for founding a political group called the Pioneer Club - which looked at concerns such as the use of vivisection and examined various philosophies. However, its primary concern was that of women's rights.

She inherited the Gunby Hall estate in Lincolnshire upon her father's death in 1887.

She died following an operation, aged just 49.

Cremated. Funeral held at St John the Evangelist, Westminster, London, after which ashes buried at Gunby, Lincolnshire.
