Died Tuesday afternoon, April 25, 1916, at St. John's hospital after a short illness of pneumonia, Mrs. Jerusha Herndon, widow of the late Elliott B. Herndon, former United States district attorney of the southern district of Illinois. Mrs. Herndon was 83 years old.

Mrs. Herndon was born April 26, 1833, in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence county, New York. She was first married to Glen Lee, who died a few years later. She was married to Elliott B. Herndon, Sept. 13, 1875. She had been a resident of this city for the past fifty years and was a staunch member of the St. Paul's Episcopal church. Mrs. Herndon was well known in this city, having many friends among the older residents. She was a woman of strong personality and her generous acts and loving disposition endeared her to all those with whom she cam in contact.

For the past few years Mrs. Herndon had made her home with Mrs. Frank Fleury. Surviving are Charles Balersby, a nephew, and two grandchildren, William Lee, residing northwest of Springfield, and George Lee of Tacoma, Washington. IL State Register, Springfield, IL, 4-26-1916
