extracted summary from his obit which ran in the Clarksville Weekly Chronicle Feb.1, 1890:

He was born Feb. 1, 1830 in Russellville, KY. When he was 23 he came to Clarksville and took the position of bookkeeper at the at the warehouse of W. H. Mclure. In 1858 he took charge of what was then known as the Red River Warehouse and operated it independently. In 1860 he formed a partnership known as the Poindexter and Poilard warehouse which proved to be very successful for him. in 1867 he was elected cashier of the New Providence Saving Institution which shortly after moved to Clarksville and changed its name to the Franklin Bank. He held this position up until his death.

Mr. Pointdexter was married three times: 1st to Miss Emily Everett, they had one child who is now the wife of W.B. Anderson. Miss Everett died in 1864. He married next a Mrs. Gee who died in 1873 (it appears they had no children together as they are not mentioned.) Next he married Miss Kate Carney of Murfressboro, who was his wife at the time of his demise.

His wife and children are amply provided for as Mr. Pointdexter leaves a large estate. The funeral procession was one of the longest the city had ever seen, stretching from from the Methodist church to J. Stirling Neblett's house on Greenwood Ave. His death was of a great surprise to many of his friends as only a few of his most intimate friends knew of his sickness. He was taken with influenza the first of last week. He leaves a wife and three little children, while Mrs. Anderson is a child of a previous marriage.
