John C. Clowdus, 85, died December 22 at his residence on route four Oneonta. Son of the late George D. and Elizabeth Chandler Clowdus, he was born in Marshall County. He was a j member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Marshall County. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Addie Gilliland Clowdus; three sons, John Theodore of route one Altoona, George R. (Bob) and Hubert E. of Oneonta; two daughters, Mrs. Porter Griggs (Florence) and Mrs. Jessie Staton (Lois) of route four Oneonta; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Chandler C. Clowdus of Chattanooga, Tenn. Funeral services were held December 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Oneonta, with the Revs. Andrew Oden, V. B. Johnston, Bert Goodwin, George Allison officiating. Pall bearers were grandsons, Roy Staton, Herman, Harold and John, Jr., Clowdus and nephews Herman Brock and Gene Clowdus. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Lemley in charge of arrangements.
