Erma O. (Fisher) Weidner Baer, 103, formerly of Oley, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident.

Her first husband, J. Russell Weidner, former owner of Weidner Funeral Home, Oley, passed away on Aug. 20, 1956. Her second husband, John F. Baer, passed away on Oct. 13, 1990.

Born in Oley, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Hannah H. (Strunk) Fisher.

She was a 1926 graduate of Oley Valley High School and a 1930 graduate of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. She was the oldest living graduate of both schools.

From 1931 to 1933, she was the night supervisor of the operating and delivery rooms at Reading Hospital and continued working there until 1952. From 1953 to 1958, she was a nurse at Carpenter Technology Corp. She last worked as the school nurse for Oley Valley School District until retiring in 1969.

She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Oley, where she sang on the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Anniversary Day Chorus at the Lutheran Home.

She is survived by her two daughters, Elaine F., wife of James C. Fox, Willow Street; and Linda W., wife of Dr. Leonard Dietrich, Kutztown; her son, Wayne R. Weidner, and his wife, Kathleen, Oley; and a stepson, Arthur E. Baer, Florida.

Other survivors include a brother, Willard S. Fisher, and a sister, Laura O. Lorah, both of Boyertown. There are also 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Jane F. Rinehart Zwillinger Ables, on Nov. 4, 2005; and a son, Phillip Weidner, on Sept. 6, 1934. She was also predeceased by brothers: Frank S., James Marion, Murray W. and Jacob L.; as well as three grandchildren.

Services will be today, Aug. 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Friedens United Church of Christ, 337 Main St., Oley, PA 19547. Burial will be in Oley Union Cemetery, Spangsville. Friends and family may view today from 9 to 11 a.m. in the church.
