And a resident of Mt. Hermon died at 11:30 AM Thursday, February 26, 2009 at his residence.

He was a Lieutenant with the U. S. Navy and a rural mail carrier for 40 years for the U. S. Postal Service. He was an avid sports fan.

Survived by: Son and daughter in law: Jimmy and Faye Spradley of Baton Rouge, 2 Granddaughters and spouses: Debbie and Chad Johnson of Summerville, SC, Heather and James Creel of Birmingham, AL, 3 Great grandchildren: Abigayle and Walter Johnson, Claire Creel, Sister in law: Jessie Tate of West Monroe, Special Friend: Jerry Alford of Mt. Hermon, Numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife Marguerite "Girlie" Schilling Tate, his parents Murray and Clothilde Alford Tate, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home from 5 PM until 8 PM Friday, February 27, 2009 and after 12 Noon Saturday. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Joe Baugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
