Elfreda Thomas Johns, 80, of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning, June 15, 2009, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Pierce County, she had moved to Offerman in 1986 and had lived the last four years in Blackshear. She owned Freda's Fashions in Offerman for several years and was a very devoted Pink Lady for the Pierce County Nursing Home. She loved going to Camp Pinnacle (Georgia Baptist Camp for Girls) and was a very devoted member of Offerman Baptist Church where she was in the Faith Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also a founding member of the Dependable's Senior Citizen Group at the church. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother as well as a faithful friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln Johns; her parents, Aubrey and Mae Youmans Thomas; a daughter, Shirley Evans; a son, Jimmy Braveboy; and two sisters, Maggie Lou Wright and Christine Howard; a step-brother, Bob Roundtree and two step-sisters, Annie Mobley and Mattie Mobley.

Survivors include her daughter, Libby Barber (husband George), Blackshear; two step-daughters, Anita Baird (husband Eric), Arcadia, OK and Becky Bradley (husband Mike) Fort Smith, AR; two step-sons, Kenny Johns, Oklahoma City, OK, Bernie Johns (wife Rhonda), Corinth, TX; a brother, Colonel Eldridge Thomas (wife Marge), Patterson; three grandchildren, Lori Horton (husband John), Michelle Lynch, Brian Floyd (wife Claudia); nine step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, John Horton, Mary Catherine Horton, Ashley Lynch, Justin Lynch, Madison Floyd, Dawson Floyd; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 from the Offerman Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the Offerman Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

The Faith Ladies Sunday School Class and Pink Ladies of the Pierce County Nursing Home have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
