Funeral services for Edward Ludwell Taliaferro were conducted Monday, Sept. 28 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church. Father Robert Swope officiated.

Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in Green River.

Taliaferro, 81, Green River, mayor from 1943-47, died at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs.

He was born Oct. 13, 1905, a son of Thomas Sedden and Lucy Ramsay Taliaferro Jr. He married Elva Angus in October of 1938. She died March of 1980.

He spent his early years and was educated in Rock Springs. He then attended Epis Boys High School in Alexandria, Va. Upon graduation, he entered the banking business.

He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge in Green River, a Knight Templar, a member of the Shrine Club, past member of Mt. MOriah Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Lions Club, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a past member of the Elks Club.

He belonged to the Wyoming Woolgrowers Association, the Lee Society of Virginia and the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence.

He was president of the First National Bank for many years, past chairman of the Wyoming Highway Commission, A Green River city councilman and was co-owner of the Green River Mercantile and Big Sandy Livestock Company.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Bill Taliaferro of Rock Springs, Tom Taliaferro of Farson and Mrs. Don (Susan) Van Matre of Green River; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ramsay Taliaferro, Sedden Taliaferro, Arthur Lee Taliaferro and Wilford Taliaferro; four sisters, Lucy England, Ann Taliaferro, Virginia Taliaferro and Hallie Taliaferro and one granddaughter.
