BEECHER CITY - Elwin Max Buzzard, 88, of Beecher City passed away at 1:07 p.m. Wednesday (April 7, 2010) in the Shelby Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Greenland Baptist Church, Beecher City with Pastor Jason Price officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Beecher City. Burial will be in the Beecher City Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be made to Greenland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. He was born July 19, 1921 in Loudon Township, Fayette County the son of Roy and Patti (McNeely) Buzzard. He married Lucy Drees February 16, 1946 in Beecher City and she preceded him in death December 12, 2005. He graduated from Beecher City High School in 1939 and received an accounting degree from Sparks College in Shelbyville. He was a veteran of WW II serving in US Army 960th Engineering Company from October of 1942 to January of 1946 spending most of the war in the Philippines. He was employed at the First State Bank of Beecher City for 35 years, 19 as president retiring in 1989 and currently is on the Board of Directors. He then worked at Wal Mart in Effingham for 15 years retiring in 2008. He has served as Beecher City High School Treasurer for over 34 years and is a member of the Greenland Baptist Church. Max was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother. He greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a legendary supporter of Beecher City baseball and basketball teams and one of their greatest fans. He always enjoyed his many years of working with the public. Surviving are daughter, Kathy Fern Buzzard, sons, James Buzzard and wife Kathleen (Kathy), Stan Buzzard and wife Lisa all of Beecher City and son, Tom Buzzard and wife Joan of Effingham; grandchildren, Rusty Buzzard and wife Angie, Tony Buzzard, Brent Buzzard and wife Allison, Jared Buzzard, Jake Buzzard and Lynn Waelde and husband Mark; great-grandchildren, Austin Minnigerode, Bryce Buzzard, Dylan Burnett, Renee Buzzard, Serena Buzzard and Max James Buzzard; sister-in-laws, Kathleen Knapp and husband Delane, Joyce Drees and Betty Drees all of Beecher City; brother-in-law, Keith Howell of Decatur; several nieces and nephews.
