Obituary:
Rev. Norma Jean Cochran Thomas, 71, of Patterson, passed away Monday afternoon (April 19, 2010) at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Pierce County on April 5, 1939, Rev. Thomas had lived there most of her life. She was a retired United Methodist minister having pastored at Sweetwater UMC in Odum, Screven UMC, Midville/Union Grove UMC and Brooks UMC. She was also a past president of Women's Aglow and at the time of her death was a member of the Blackshear FUMC where she had been in the Chancel Choir. Rev. Thomas was very active in the Red Hats Society, enjoyed her swim class at the YMCA, and loved her retirement and spending time with her grandchildren and all of their activities.

Rev. Thomas was a daughter of the late William Foy & Mattie Lou Harper Cochran and was also preceded in death by a son, Kelvin Thomas; a sister, Betty Peacock; and all three of her brothers, Buford Cochran, J. R. Cochran and Billy Cochran.

Survivors include her husband, Rudolph "Rudy" Thomas of Patterson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Suzanne & David Wilson of Covington, GA and Lou Mincey of Patterson; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis R. & Angela Thomas of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Helen Fitzgerald of Orange Park, FL and Carolyn Bradley of Blue Ridge, GA; 6 grandchildren, Kyle Thomas, Rusty Wilson, Rebecca Wilson, Mishnaree Mincey, Sasha Mincey and Banner Thomas and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation:
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Thursday evening (April 22, 2010) at the funeral home.

Service:
Funeral services for Rev. Thomas will be held at 11:00 o'clock Friday morning (April 23, 2010) at Blackshear First United Methodist Church.

The body will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family requests that members of the Red Hat Society serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 10:30 Friday morning and wear your hats.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
