He was a veteran of the U.S. Army; he served during the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Wayne Tex manufacturing as a senior maintenance mechanic.
He was a lifetime member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew J. Jr. "Andy" and Carolyn Johnson and Ronald Lee and Betty Johnson; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jeff Ellinger; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas E. and Helen Johnson and Grover C. Jr. and Carolyn Johnson; three grandchildren, Heather Johnson and her friend, Jeremy Williams, Ron Johnson and his wife, Tonia, and Melissa Moore and her husband, Chris; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Raven and Ormanda Johnson and "his little man," Dylan Moore; and special nieces, Sheila Brooks and Lisa Hott.
He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Wayne and Crystal (Humphries) Johnson; his father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Elna Conner; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Natale.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in Ridgeview Baptist Church by the Rev. Don A. McClure. Burial will follow in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, with military rites by Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339.
Active pallbearers will be Junior, Carroll, Paul and John Conner, Ron Johnson, Chris Moore, Jeremy Williams, Landon Coffey, Charles Conner and Dylan Moore.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Ridgeview Baptist Church and at other times at his residence.
The family would like to give special thanks to members of the staff of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, Pam Mathews, Kathy Anderson and Stacy.
