Edward Boice, thirty-one years of age,
died at the Yankton asylum April 1.
Paralysis of the brain is given as
the cause of dissolution. The remains
were brought to Spearfish last Wednesday
and placed at rest in Spearfish Cemetery.
Mr. Boice was a resident of the valley
up to the breaking out of the late war.
He enlisted, and was sent to a training
camp where he underwent a severe siege
of sickness which left him in an
enfeebled condition. About nine months
ago, he was adjudged insane and sent to
Yankton, SD, for treatment, death
resulting as above stated.
Edward Francis Boice was born Dec. 24,
1888, in Sully County, South Dakota. He
came to Spearfish at the age of ten years.
He attended the training school and state
normal school. He was for several years a
miner in Butte, Montana. He was called to
the service in July, 1918, served at
Camp Dodge, Iowa, and was transferred
to the private air service at Ft. Wayne,
Michigan. He was discharged from the
service Jan. 23, 1919. He died April 1,
1920, at the age of thirty-one years,
four months, and seven days.
He was the son of Benjamin Boice and Mary
Ellen Boice. He leaves behind a mother,
Mrs. Mary Ellen Boice, two brothers, one
sister, a half-sister, and a sister-in-law.
Funeral services were held Wednesday
afternoon, April 7, at two o'clock,
conducted by the Rev. D. M. Brown at
the cemetery.
