Oscar H. Gingrich, 89, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, November 29 of natural causes.
He was born November 15, 1921 at home in rural Titonka, son of Raleigh W. and Gertrude Wellhousen Gingrich. He married Geneva Mae Williams on April 12, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She died February 26, 1999.
Mr. Gingrich served in the U.S. Army during World War 2 in the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion and General Patton's 3rd Army Recon Company. He was employed at John Deere in the foundry, retiring in 1978 after 31 years of service. He also was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Washburn; was a former Honor Guard Commander and Life Member of VFW Post 1623, and American Legion Post 138; and belonged to the Moose Lodge and Polka Club of Iowa.
Survived by one son, Allen Benson of Waterloo; one daughter, Theresa (Jim) Mahoney of Waterloo; thre grandchildren, Ashley Essmann, Sydnie Mahoney, and Terrence Miller; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Evan Miller; and a special friend, Norma Ellis.
Preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Lucretia Benson Gingrich; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Benson; two brothers, Clarence and Earl; and one sister-in-law, Anna Gingrich.
Services 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Washburn, with burial in Poyner Cemetery, Waterloo. Graveside military rites conducted by Becker-Chapman Post 138 American Legion, and Waterloo Post 1623 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Public visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
