Ebenezer McCullough was the first born child of Patrick McCullough (1735-1811) and his wife Hannah Smith (ca. 1751-1815). Both parents were Protestant immigrants from Ireland. In 1811 Ebenezer married Rachel Mahan (1795-1817). The couple had four children: John Caldwell (b. 1812), Robert (b. 1813), Patrick Henry (b. 1816), and Rachel (b. 1817). The birth of the last child was the probable the cause of Rachel Mahan McCullough's death at 22 years of age. Not long afterwards Ebenezer married a woman named Mary and by her had two additional children: Janet K. (b. 1820) and Smith (b. 1826).
