Harold Dean Martin, 72, of Bedford, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, October 23, 1938 in Bedford County, a son of the late Willie Snow Martin and Nellie Jane Maxey Martin . He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Martin and John Odell Martin; and a sister, Lera Jane Lynch. He was employed for many years as service manager with City Ford in Bedford. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Witt Martin; two daughters, Debbie Bryant and husband Marvin, and Denise Creasy and husband Roger, all of Bedford; four grandchildren, Christopher Bryant, Gregory Bryant, Christina Creasy, and Nicholas Creasy; a great-granddaughter, Keira Gray; a brother, Christopher (Jan) Martin of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Pauline Mattox of Roanoke, and Betty Haynes of Salem. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Medi Home Health & Hospice, 5369 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Updike Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Murphy and the Rev. Bart Weakley officiating. Interment will follow in Ephesus United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Sunday and the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
