Hubert F. Wetzel, 85, Topeka, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at a Topeka hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Owensville, Mo., to Gerald Halstead and Alice Edela Kampen Wetzel.
Mr. Wetzel was a member of First Congregational Church and a former member of Central Congregational Church. He also had been a ham radio operator.
He married Maxine June Wetzel on Sept. 26, 1942. She died Dec. 8, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Shipman, Wilmington, Del.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Wetzel will lie in state at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Monday, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 1701 S.W. Collins, Topeka, 66604.
