Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Smith Bowen, 72 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday morning (February 26, 2012) at her residence.

Born in Cedar Crossing, GA on February 2, 1940, she had lived in Pierce County most of her adult life. Mrs. Bowen had been a school bus driver for the Pierce County Board of Education and had also done upholstery work. She was of the Baptist faith and was a daughter of the late Curtis Franklin & Sarah Elizabeth Mumford Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Quinton Bowen; a sister, Adna Mussara; and four brothers, Edward L. Parker, Curtis F. Smith, Jr., Robert D. Smith and Hugh H. Smith, Sr.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl & Dale Ellis of Hortense and Sarah & Buddy Smith of Bickley; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas "Bubba" & Pamela Bowen of Seymour, MO; a sister, Mary D. Smith of Waynesville; four brothers, Alvin A. Parker, Harold W. Parker and Virgil H. Smith all of Brunswick and Alfred Parker of Bradenton, FL; 9 grandchildren, Gilbert Dale Ellis, Jr., Thomas Malachi Ellis, Jennifer Marie Ellis, Robert Anthony Ellis, Rebekah Delaney Smith, Zeke Smith, Chrissy Bowen, Matthew Bowen and Meagon Bown; 2 great grandchildren, Tess Anne Ellis and Thomas Malachi Ellis, Jr. and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Visitation:
Visitation for Mrs. Bowen will be held Tuesday evening, February 28, 2012, from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Service:
Funeral services for Mr. Bowen will be held Wednesday afternoon (February 29, 2012) at 2:00 o'clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
