BUCKLAND -- Lloyd N. Cass, 71, of Hog Hollow Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at home.
Lloyd was born in Greenfield on April 28, 1940, the son of Nathaniel and Carrie (Purinton) Cass. He was a graduate of Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, Class of 1958.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1965. While serving, Lloyd was detached as a military police officer at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Upon returning from the service, he was employed by CW Ward Trucking Co. in Ashfield. For over 30 years, he was a truck driver, first for CW Ward and then Lloyd went out on his own as long haul driver for himself as an owner operator. Lloyd also was a farmer and a logger.
He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.
Lloyd adored and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, two sons, two daughters, a brother, eight grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mary Lyon Church, Upper Road, with Pastor Richard Fournier officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions are suggested to Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 319, South Deerfield, MA 01373-0319. Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home of Shelburne Falls is in charge of arrangements.
