The presbytery is distinctive for the presence of Robert of Anjou's impressive funerary monument, built in 1343-1345 by the brothers Giovanni and Ruein Bertini for Joanna I, Robert's granddaughter and then heir to the throne. The sarcophagus is sustained by columns decorated with allegorical figures and a bas-relief of the King sitting on a
Bishop's chair with Queen Sancha, his granddaughter Joanna and his second son Louis on the right, on the left there in his first wife, Violante ,Charles of Calabria and Marie of Valois. The lid depicts the King laid out in the Franciscan habit and watched over by allegorical figures of the Liberal Arts. Sadly severely damaged in WW2.
