The original marker, placed by his son, John H. Hollingsworth, in 1841 was defaced by vandals soon after it was erected. The present marker, erected in 1845, was made in Charleston, S.C., of Italian marble. The four-foot iron fence surrounding the plot has in each panel the replica of a palm tree. On the face of the lofty monument is the name in two-and-one-half inch black letters. On the back is etched a laurel wreath enclosing the inscription below.
