Dr. Gustavus Brown (father of Elizabeth Brown Wallace) this portrait one of two painted of him during his lifetime: the earlier one 1742 when he was married to Frances Fowke by artist G. Hesselius; the later one 1751 (actually a near copy of the first portrait) when married to his 2nd wife, Margaret, by artist J. Hesselius.
