Moses Curiel was a Sephardic Jewish nobleman, diplomat, and wealthy merchant during the Dutch Golden Age. Arriving in the Netherlands at age 22, he became one of the most important Dutch traders with Portugal and its colonies. He was also prominent in Jewish community life and an expert diplomate, spending much time at The Hague acting as Dutch-Portuguese intermediary. For his significant services, he received the royal title 'Knight of the Royal Household of Portugal'.
