William and Jane Blackie and five children came out to NZ on the 'Mooltan' arriving in Dunedin on the 26 Dec. 1849. William Blackie was the younger brother of the founder of Blackie and Son Publishers.

Death of his eldest son:
DIED.
At Pleasant Villa, near Dunedin, on the 28th ult., William, eldest son of William Blackie, aged 15 years and 9 months, of polypus and cancer. [Otago Witness, Issue 107, 4 June 1853, Page 2]

Death of his eldest brother in Scotland:
DEATHS.
Blackie. — On the 17th June, at Glasgow. Mr John Blackie, sen., of the firm of Blackie & Sons, publishers, and brother of the late Captain Blackie; aged 92 years. [Bruce Herald, Volume VII, Issue 630, 8 September 1874, Page 4]
