Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Theresa Kay, 73, of Sterling, former Rock Island resident, who died at 7:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the home of son, Robert J. Kay, 307 West Eleventh street, Sterling, will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Central Presbyterian church, Rock Island. When in Rock Island she lived at 1510 Fourteenth-and-a-half street.
The Rev. Paul B. Calhoun, pastor, will officiate. The body will be brought to the church Wednesday morning and will lie in state there until time for the services.
Mrs. Kay had been in failing health since last December. Her death was due to leukemia. The body was taken to the Trouth funeral home in Sterling and was removed to th eRobert J. Kay home Sunday afternoon. The body will remain there until being brought to the Rock Island church Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Kay, the former Miss Susan Theresa Lloyd, a daughter of the late Bryand and Rachel Lloyd, was born Sept. 19, 1873, in Atkinson, Ill. When a young girl she moved to South Dakota, and was reared and educated there.
Following her marriage to Robert M. Kay, the couple made their home in Rock Island 25 years. Mr. Kay preceded her in death Jan. 19, 1941. In November, 1946, Mrs. Kay sold her home in Rock Island and moved to Sterling. She recently purchased a home in Rock Falls but did not have the opportunity to live there.
She was a member of the Rock Island chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and was active in social work and Red Cross activities. She also was affiliated with various bodies of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are two sons, Adrian H. Kay, Salem, Ore., and Robert J. Kay, Sterling. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Melville.
