Catherine was born at "Wheatland", Jefferson Co., West Virginia circa 1813. Her mother, Catherine Blackburn Turner died giving birth to "Kitty". With seven older siblings, Kitty was raised by her mother's sister, aunt Julia Blackburn Washington and her aunt's husband, John Augustine Washington, President George Washington's great nephew. She was described as having "red hair, blue eyes, temper, wit, fine figure." Kitty grew up at Mt. Vernon. On one visit to Mt. Vernon, the Marquis de Lafayette gave Kitty a doll. Kitty grew up "violently pro-Southern". She once described John Brown as that "evil old man who had "murdered" my brother." She married Dr. John Stephen Wright in a beautiful ceremony at Mt. Vernon. Kitty had 4 children:

Augustine Washington Wright
Walter Wright
Maria Alexander Wright
Chester Dewey Wright

Dr. John Stephen Wright, her husband, is interred in Illinois.
