George Turner was an 1831 graduate of the United Stares Military Academy. A longtime prominent farmer in Jefferson County, Va. George Turner owned the Wheatland Plantation located just south of Charles Town, Va. During the John Brown raid on the United States arsenal in Harpers Ferry, he was killed defending the town against the raiders. Mr. Turner was also a cousin to Lt. Colonel John Augustine Washington, close friend and aide to Gen Robert E. Lee.
