Richard F. Garber, age 95, of Columbia, died peacefully, Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Sus-quehanna Valley Nursing and Rehab-ilitation Center. Born in Ironville, he was the son of the late Elmer and Ethel (Fox) Garber. Rich was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Rost) Garber; she died October 28, 2007. He retired from Caterpillar Inc., York, where he worked as a machinist. Earlier in life, Rich was a farmer. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, serving on a P-T Boat in the Philippines. Rich was a member of Ironville United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. Rich was also a member of the Yellow Breeches Anglers Association and the Ironville Fire Company. He was a volunteer coach for many years for Mountville Youth Baseball. Rich enjoyed fly fishing, tying flies, hunting, bowling, Philadelphia Eagles and Philles, and following Jimmie Johnson in NASCAR.

Rich is survived by his children: Doris wife of Jim Kreiser of Lancaster; Patricia Bender of Landisville; Carolyn wife of Chuck Flory of Lancaster; Reba wife of Gary Elslager of Columbia; Rick husband of Bobbie Garber of Blairs Mills; Barry husband of Denise Garber of Carlisle, and his 16 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Robert, James and Betty.

A memorial service to honor Rich’s life will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2015, from Ironville United Methodist Church, 4020 Holly Drive, Columbia, at 11am (the family will receive friends from 10-11am) with Pastor Charles A. Deutsch officiating. Interment will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Route 934, Annville, at 1pm. Please omit flowers.
