DEATH OF NONAGENARIAN.
PASSING OF OLD COLONIST. MRS JAMES STRINGFELLOW. At the age of 94 years, Mrs James Stringfellow passed away at her residence, 233 Main South Road, Ashburton, yesterday. Her husband predeceased her by about 18 years. Mr and Mrs Stringfellow were both natives of Shropshire, England, Mrs. Stringfellow's maiden name being Ann Jacks. With six children they came to New Zealand 51 years ago in the Eastern Monarch. They took up dairy farming at Port Levy for seven years, then removing to Chertsey, where they engaged in general farming for 25 years. Mr Stringfellow died a few months after the family retired to Ashburton. He was noted for his specialisation in Corriedale sheep. Mrs Stringfellow was a keen Anglican churchwoman, assisting the cause in many ways. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition, though ever ready to help the needy and sick. Three sons and two daughters, 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grand-children remain. The sons, all of whom are farmers, are: Mr H. Stringfellow, of Winchmore; Mr James Stringfellow, of Purau; and Mr John Stringfellow, of Greytown, North Island. The daughters are Mrs J. H. Rule, of Geraldine, and Miss Agnes Stringfellow, of Ashburton. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon. [Ashburton Guardian, Volume XLVI, Issue 10447, 13 July 1925, Page 5]
